Reflecting on Chasing Contentment by Erik Raymond

I recently finished reading Chasing Contentment by Erik Raymond. I read this book because of the discontentment that has been growing my heart for a while. This book helped me see what gets in the way of the contentment that God has for every believer. While I still processing through it, I thought it helpful to list those things that get in way and what to do about it.

What gets in the way of Contentment (in no particular order):

  1. Unsettling circumstances.

  2. Broken relationships.

  3. False accusations.

  4. Death of a loved one.

  5. Chronic sickness.

  6. Moral ambiguity.

  7. Prosperity of the wicked.

  8. Persecution.

  9. Personal sin.

What to do about it:

  1. Look around.

  2. Look back.

  3. Look ahead.

  4. Look to Christ.

It’s too easy for any of us to get caught up in the circumstances of life and miss what God is doing in us, through us, and around us.

The work ahead of me is about time spent dealing with each one of the things that get in the way that are applicable and applying the 4 “looks” to each one. I encourage you to do the same.

You can get the book here.
