Best Quotes From The Imperfect Disciple by Jared C. Wilson

I finished reading this book a few weeks ago and immediately wanted to take someone through it (and now I am).  Here are some of the reasons why:

Introduction: "Christian discipleship does not mean following Jesus. It means following Jesus wherever he goes." (pg. 11)

Chapter 1 - "This is how I like to think about discipleship, then - not just following Jesus, but refollowing Jesus every day. We get off track so easily." (pg. 28)

Chapter 2 - "Our discipleship has to deal with this tension - the tension between the glorious reality we believe in and yearn for and the hard reality we currently live in every day - or else it's not the real Jesus we're following." (pg. 47)

Chapter 3 - "One of the subtle dangers of the way many Christians 'do discipleship' is that they are always somehow looking at Jesus and yet never really seeing him." (pg. 54)

Chapter 4 - "This is the whole point of reading and studying the Bible - to encounter the glory of God - and if we aren't reading and studying to encounter the glory of Jesus, we are missing the whole point." (pg. 92)

Chapter 5 - "In essence, we chuck prayer because the results of prayerlessness are not immediately felt or seen." (pg. 107)

Chapter 6 - "You can't grow in holiness and holier-than-thou-ness at the same time." (pg. 136)

Chapter 7 - "... if you are a follower of Jesus you are never truly stuck." (pg. 172)

Chapter 8 - "Behavior problems are belief problems." (pg. 180)

Chapter 9 - "Grace is all-sufficient for weakness and for suffering because Jesus is all-sufficient." (pg. 210)

Chapter 10 - "This is how you boast in your weakness and suffering too. This is how you boast in your sorry little devotional life. This is how you boast in your constant inability to get your act together. No, not by seeing a physical revelation of the heaven that awaits you. But by beholding a vision of a glorious Christ, whose power rests on you if you're a believer." (pg. 225)

Conclusion - "I want to, by God's grace, give you the freedom to own up to your not having your act together." (pg. 230)
