Peddlers vs. Pastors

For we are not, like so many, peddlers of God's word, but as men of sincerity,as commissioned by God, in the sight of God we speak in Christ. (2 Corinthians 2:17 ESV)

Are you a peddler of God's word or a pastor of the Word? Here's how you can tell.

You are peddling God's word if:

  • You are in it for personal profit.
  • You are in it for personal glory.
  • You are in it to build a personal platform.
  • You lack sincerity (your concern is to appear superior).
  • You haven't been commissioned by God (you've been more or less, self appointed).
  • You don't speak in Christ (your message is more self-help, than sermon where you are the guru).
  • You are merely a transmitter of information.

Bottom line = Peddlers are prideful and arrogant.

You are a pastor of the Word if:

  • You are in it to bless and profit others.
  • You are in it for God's glory.
  • You are in it to build's God's kingdom.
  • You are sincere (in the way you approach people).
  • You've been commissioned by God (through a local church).
  • You speak in Christ (through expository preaching of the whole counsel of God).
  • You are used by the Holy Spirit to bring about transformation.

Bottom line = Pastors are humble servants and shepherds.

Which are you?
