I'm reading The Quest for Meekness and Quietness of Spirit by Matthew Henry and I came across this series of quotes on authority and leadership.
But while you are governing others, learn to govern yourselves, and do not disorder your souls under the pretense of keeping order in your families. (pg. 84)
When there is disorder in our soul we "...prostitute..." rather and "...preserve..." our authority. (pg. 85)
In order to "... behave ... wisely..." we need to avoid two extremes: "...foolish indulgence..." and "...brutish rage...". (pg. 85)
Quotes taken from The Quest for Meekness and Quietness of Spirit by Matthew Henry reprinted by Soli Deo Gloria in 1996.
Whether you are parent or a pastor these words are sobering and deserving of much, heavy contemplation.
