20 Lessons Learned in 20 Years of Marriage

20 Lessons Learned in 20 Years of Marriage

Today is my 20th wedding anniversary. The young part of me can barely believe it's been that long. The old part of me can hardly remember where the time has gone. I'm lucky, I'm married to a woman I truly don't deserve (... I married WAY up). Sure, we've had our share of ups and downs. But God has been faithful. Most of what I've learned about marriage has been through seeing Jesus in my wife. She has taught me with words as well as actions. Here's what I've learned:

To be more:

gracious

loving

generous

hospitable

patient

content

kind

To be less:

angry

demanding

fearful

reactive

How to be a better:

husband

father

friend

pastor

leader

servant

speaker of the truth in love

When to:

fight

let go

Even though I haven't always been the best student, she's alway willing to show me my weaknesses, while capitalizing on my strengths. There's no doubt in my mind that I wouldn't be who I am or where I am without her.

Cheryl, I love you more than I often times express. I'm eagerly looking forward to how ever long God blesses us with. Oh, yeah and ...

Happy Anniversary!
