Soul Care (pt. 6) Conclusions (... thus far)

So far (links to parts 1, 2, 3, 4, & 5) I've shared what God has been teaching me about soul care. I'm probably just scraching the service. I have a long way to go. Here are my conclusions thus far:

This is work the church should do

From what the New Testament "one another" passages tell us, collectively, this is what community looks like. It's our responsibility to each other. It's how we follow in the footsteps of our Lord and Savior. This is a critical part of how we serve one another.

This is work the church can do

We; the people of God, locally gathered, can do this work. We can if we are walking with Him, growing in Him, and relying on Him.  We can do this if church leadership sees this as a priority and trains up leaders in its importance and execution.

What's needed in the future

  1. More thoughtful writing on this subject.
  2. Greater depth in the commitment and application of community.
  3. Greater personal growth and dependance on Jesus.

Here is what I've been reading that took me down this path.

How People Change by Timothy S. Lane & Paul David Tripp

Speaking Truth In Love by David Powlison

Here is the next book I'm planning on reading on this subject:

Counsel One Another by Paul Tautges
